Bible Verse – What Does it Mean to Be a Good Wife?

Weddings are joyous events that should be commemorated, yet many couples struggle with the realities of marriage after honeymooning and all those romantic feelings have faded. Therefore, it is crucial that one has an accurate perception about marriage and what makes a good wife.

There are various Bible verses that outline what makes an ideal wife. To be successful at being one requires commitment, love, loyalty and sacrifice from both parties involved – the key being remembering marriage as a journey ordained by God! If your marriage is having difficulties we suggest reading these passages alone or together to restore and encourage your relationship.

1. A Good Wife Is A Treasure (Proverbs 31:16) The Bible portrays an ideal wife as an invaluable treasure. She should possess great competence, noble character and commitment to both husband and family – qualities which provide great joy to both partners in marriage. Whenever men find such a partner they are blessed by God!

2. A Good Wife Is Trustworthy (Proverbs 31:26) A trustworthy wife is someone whose conduct does not compromise or damage her husband in public – this is a mark of true love; otherwise, their husband might never feel safe confiding in them and may worry constantly about them. A trustworthy wife provides strength and security to her partner.

3. A Godly Wife Is Submissive (Philippians 3:15)

A godly wife should be modest, submissive and humble in all aspects of her life with her husband and family – something her submission can tell others about her devotion to Christ.

4. A Good Wife Isn’t Spiteful (Proverbs 19:10)

Being a good wife means being respectful and kind to all those around her, without speaking negatively of them publicly. Spitters do not make ideal wives because they do not show respect to either their husbands or others around them; thus making an adequate wife one who does not display spitefulness towards either them or other people in general. A true wife doesn’t speak negatively of anyone, including her own spouse and others around them.

5. Patience Is Key (Proverbs 25:22)

A great wife must be patient, not easily angered, able to bear through difficult circumstances in her life and knowing when it is important to remain quiet and listen before taking action if needed. A patient wife makes for an understanding and wise partner.

Men need time alone in their “man cave,” usually a quiet and private room where they can drink beer and watch sports. A caring partner should respect this time for her partner to recharge his batteries and stay happy in their marriage.
