Their future nation depended on this match – something Abraham didn’t receive a direct command to do; rather his actions were guided by what appeared to be an obvious inference: his offspring should become devout believers and never return to Mesopotamia (Genesis 24:1-4).
He sent one of his most trusted servants on a mission to Nahor’s family, where they hoped to find Isaac an appropriate wife. To assess potential candidates for Isaac, this servant devised a plan which allowed him to quickly discern potential partners’ character: offering to water Isaac’s camels before asking God for guidance as he looked for someone suitable. Rebekah came into view, making her clear as Rebekah had indeed become Isaac’s partner in life.
Rebekah may often go unsung, yet she should be recognized for her faith and obedience – she’s a role model for young women today!
