Citylight High exists to do two things: Help high school students Feel Free & Find Faith.

Far too often in high school, youth group students have to pretend. They have to pretend to be further along then they really are. They have to pretend they don’t struggle, have doubts, or royally mess up. Our first Big Rock at Citylight High is to to create an environment were students can “Feel Free.”

We want students to Feel Free to be vulnerable about struggles, doubts, and mistakes. Free to say, “I don’t understand how God could do this” or “I’m really struggling to believe God even exists.” We want to create a safe environment where students can feel free to work out what they believe about life, God, and how the world works.

CLHOur other Big Rock at Citylight High is to help our students “Find Faith.” Students never have to believe what we believe in order to belong here, but we talk about Jesus! We want to introduce students to Jesus and help them make their faith their own. We do not want students to have their parents’ faith, their church’s faith, or their leaders’ faith. Rather, we want them to have their own personal faith. We want our students to Find Faith in the real Jesus.

We hope to accomplish this with 15-minute teaching sessions and then have what we call DNA small groups every night.  The DNA groups consist of 3 to 4 students and 1 or 2 leaders.

In these groups, students talk about life, struggles, friendships, and God.

At the end of the day, our group is all about loving students, being real, and showing them Jesus. At Citylight High, we rest in the fact that we are all sinners saved by grace. No one is perfect, so we don’t have to be fake and act like we are further along than we really are. Our hope rests in the fact that we have a God that loves us and died so we could know Him!

Hope to see you on Wednesday nights!
